Upcoming Bollywood Movies: The face of Bollywood has been in a constant state of flux throughout the last decade. The Hindi film industry has introduced a variety of new faces and names who have gone on to make a big mark, not only in Indian cinema but abroad as well. While it still churns out a healthy dose of masala on a regular basis to rope in profit, an amazing array of directors, actors and producers have come together in collaboration to bring movies that are starkly different in flavour. In the near future too, Bollywood has lined up a blend that promises to cater to both popular tastes and those who look for something different. Here in this article we will be focussing on some of the most anticipated upcoming Bollywood movies of 2016-17, the films which are expected to create a legacy in the Indian movie industry.
One steadily emerging theme in Bollywood at present is the empowerment of women. Women-centric films have a purpose to serve in today’s context with society becoming more and more aware of the consequences of sexual discrimination. Among the upcoming Bollywood films of 2016 and 2017, there are a few (Akira, Dear Zindagi, Dangal, Kahaani 2) that would make significant additions to the thematic genre. All of these films have female-centric storylines and some, like Akira, even belong to the action-drama genre.
In terms of upcoming action films too, Bollywood has plenty on offer, ranging from Akira and Mirzya (which will be an interesting film to watch out for owing to its complex narrative switching between present and past times), to Shivaay (some claim the Ajay Devgn film will be an Indian version of Liam Neeson’s Taken; we aren’t very convinced). With some of the industry’s best producers backing these films, they will be sure to grab eyeballs.
Choices abound in the romance/ rom-com genre as well. Fans can watch out for films like Baar Baar Dekho (which brings a new pairing to the big screen), Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (a K-Jo production featuring an all-star cast), Befikre (with yet another new pairing) and of course, Badrinath Ki Dulhania (a film that brings together Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan’s crackling chemistry for the third time).
Having said all this, some of the films that truly stand out among the upcoming Hindi movies are the ones which have raised expectations beyond limits. Early 2017 will see two of the biggest, most anticipated releases for obvious reasons. Raees will see Shah Rukh Khan in an anti-hero persona and Hrithik Roshan’s home production Kaabil has already made headlines for signing a huge satellite deal. Other films, that discerning fans are really looking forward to, are the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Shoojit Sircar film Pink, Farhan Akhtar’s rock and roll extravaganza Rock On!!2, Neeraj Pandey’s biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story which needs no explanation, Vishal Bhardwaj’s most expensive film till date Rangoon, a period drama, and Phillauri, which has a known face from Hollywood alongside Anushka Sharma.

Akhtar said in January this year that the film will be as much about regional conflicts as personal ones, and the area in focus will be the North-East as it fulfils the twin necessity of being huge on the rock and roll scene as well as being the seat of many political disputes. The film will also feature regional bands as well as songs in regional languages. The music of this film will be one to watch out for. Cast: Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan, Ali Zafar, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, Angad Bedi
Produced By: Gauri Khan, Karan Johar, R Balki
Expected Release Date: 25 November 2016
Seems like this one will be one refreshing film to come out of the Bollywood stables rolling out one generic film after the other. In that sense, many of the new releases seem to be promising on that front. For many, the involvement of King Khan is enough to be drawn to the theatre, but those banking on him being the lead will be disappointed. It has been reported that Alia Bhatt will be the leading actor in the film, and contrary to prior speculations, SRK will not be romancing her in the Gauri Shinde film. In fact, he will appear in a supporting role as a life coach to Alia Bhatt’s character; and though it will be short, it will be consequential. The film is also grabbing attention for the fact that it seems Alia will be romancing not one, but four men in the film. Whatever be the case, the film will be centred around her. Gauri Shinde’s first directorial venture English Vinglish was a daring and different film which received appraisal from critics and viewers alike and brought back Sridevi after a long break from acting. We are expecting nothing less from this star-studded affair that promises to be an experience. Music for the film has been scored by Amit Trivedi. Dear Zindagi will share its release date with Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani 2, and both the movies are one of the most-awiated upcoming Bollywood Movies of present year.

Production for the film began in March 2016 and the story has been penned written by director Sujoy Ghosh. The first film was shot majorly in Kolkata and upheld a side of the city that was previously ignored in national and international representations. Kahaani had satisfied audience’s expectations for a great thriller with a twist, and we hope to see no less from its sequel.

Dangal is the native name of the sport in India. A few days earlier, Salman Khan had said that he had advised Aamir to not go for a ripped look for an authentic experience, and we have heard that Aamir has amped up the body fat for the same purposes. Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra are to play Phogat’s daughters, Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari respectively. Small screen actress Sakshi Tanwar has been signed on to play Phogat’s wife, Daya Kaur. The film has been shot across locations in Punjab and Haryana.
