Warner Bros. surprised fans by unveiling the first Justice League trailer at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. And it features a massive change in tone since Zack Snyder’s last Dawn of Justice: Batman vs Superman.
The trailer shows Batman assembling the ultimate DC hero squad. The film is bringing together DC Comics heroes Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), the Flash (Ezra Miller), Superman (Henry Cavill), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa). With this team of warriors, it’s Warner Bros. answer to The Avengers.
It looks like all those complaining about the overly dark tone in Batman vs Superman was heard, because the trailer of Justice League looks really good. It’s worth noting that in the trailer Superman seems to be missing, for reasons as-of-yet unknown.
Speaking of the tone, Man of Steel and its sequel have been largely criticized for taking themselves too seriously, Justice League seems to be listening to fans and taking some cue from Suicide Squad. The trailer is airy and light, with Flash bringing an element youth to the mix. It’s pretty obvious that Warner Bros. is doing everything they can to sell the film as “fun” and “aspirational,” which is completely opposite to how they portrayed Batman vs Superman. Also, the trailer is humorous, something sorely missing from the previous DC Universe films.
The trailer is soundtracked by the White Stripes’ “Icky Thump.” Justice League hits the theaters on November 17, 2017. And by the looks of it, between the Justice League trailer and the Wonder Woman trailer, DC’s Cinematic Universe appears to be heading in the right direction.
