With the wide scope that the world of Avatar has to offer, rumors were brewing that James Cameron is planning to release at least four sequels of the film. It turns out, it’s true. An official announcement was made at the CinemaCon that four Avatar follow-up films are coming up. Cameron informed that the sequels are being worked upon right now, and the first one will hit the theaters in 2018.
Cameron also let us in on a couple of side projects on Avatar. They are currently taking with Disney for an Avatar inspired theme park and are in the process of signing deals with Dark Horse Comic for spin-off comic on Avatar. For now, Cameron has set up a team of super screenwriters who are working on the story. “The environments, new cultures — whatever it takes to bring it to life. From what I see of the art on the wall … in pure imagination is just beyond the first film. I’m speechless,” Cameron said. He has set the dates of release of the sequels – in the holiday season of 2018, then in 2020, 2022, and 2023. “It’s going to be a truly epic saga that’s told in this rich and complex world,” he said.

Cameron also took the opportunity to slam Screening Room that allows audiences to rent first-run movies from their living room. He made his stand completely clear subject saying, “There’s always been some threat to the theatre-going experience, but we’ve always answered that threat in the same way. By being great, and showmanship.” And added, “We create things by being great in the movie theater. I want to give the exhibition a shout-out for keeping the experience sacred: making the sound better, the chairs comfier — whatever it takes to get people to get in their cars to go across town.”
