Anurag Kashyap : Bombay Velvet Crashed At BO Because Of My Faults

Anurag Kashyap who is currently busy with his upcoming latest Bollywood thriller ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ had a chit chat with a leading daily in Mumbai and spoke about his previous Directorial venture ‘Bombay Velvet’ and the reason behind its failure. The film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar, K K Menon, etc. crashed at Box Office unfortunately. Finally the director came up to face it and accepted that the failure of ‘Bombay Velvet’ was entirely his fault.

Conversing to a leading daily he reacted as,When a film fails, it is 100 percent the director’s fault. If ‘Bombay Velvet’ didn’t work, it is entirely my fault. The director is the only one who has the power to say no. A lot of the places where I should’ve taken a stand, I didn’t. So the mistake is mine. When a film is good, it’s everybody’s contribution.

Kashyap  gained fame after his successful stint directing  ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ added further that, It is the sole responsibility of a Director to accept his flaws in a positive note. If a film is a hit then its the entire team’s effort but flop movies can be beard by directors which is not at all wrong.

‘Dev D’ director continued saying that, What happens is, when you are making a film, you start it out and midway, the process kind of changes. You forget why in the first place you wanted to make the film. A lot of the times, we need to put our foot down and say ‘no, this doesn’t go with the film’. We give into a lot of pressure, we go on the back foot. When a film’s budget becomes so huge that it is beyond your control, the pressure is so much that you go on the back foot. And that is the biggest mistake. However big a bowler is, (Virat) Kohli (cricketer) has to go in front and play. When you go backwards you hit the wicket.

After directing series of low budget successful Bollywood films like Gulaal, Dev D, Ganga of Wasseypur (I&II), Black Friday, Ugly, etc. Bombay Velvet was the only movie which was highest grossing budget thus failing into expectations of critics as well as audiences. All the low budget movies were hit at the BO which helped him gaining name and fame.

Currently. the Director is focusing on his latest Bolly film Raman Raghav 2.0 which is based on psychological thriller. It is set in Mumbai  1960s era when a psychotic turns into a serial killer. The chase between the killer played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Cop essayed by Vicky Kaushal makes the Bollywood thriller one of the most anticipated movie of the year. The movie is all set to be released  on June 24, 2016.
